Day 2 (2-6-09)

At about 4am we get into Palm Springs and decide to stay at a hotel and hit the Mexican Border at Mexicali the next morning. By about noon that day we are at the border. We buy Mexican insurance for $200 and joke about how we are going to claim insurance on the bikes when they blow up somewhere. We ride to the border and go through. I sure hope we got everything. Shane gets stopped by customs but its no big deal. We Made It! The plan is to make it to San Filipe that night which is about 150 miles from the border. About 100 miles in we hit the great wind storm of 2009. The wind is so strong we are litterally laying over sideways on the bikes to keep from being blown off the road. Did I mention we are in the middle of the sand dunes as well? So sand is being blown all over the place and its almost dark. We charge through and the wind dies down once we are more towards the coast. We roll into San Filipe just as its dark and ride around town looking for a place to stay. We stop at a good looking hotel and see two other guys on KL650's just leaving. They come over and talk to us and introduce themselves. Turns out they are doing the same thing as us. They have a place in San Filipe and invite us to stay with them but we end up staying at the hotel because it was right in town and cheap. We wheel our bikes into the hotel room for safe keeping and hit the town. San Filipe is very empty but we manage to have as much fun as is possible.
